ISO 9001:2015 and beyond - Preparing for the next 25 years of quality management standards

by Nigel H. Croft on 28 August 2012

First published in 1987, ISO 9000 has consistently been ISO’s most popular series of standards. Now, building on 25 years of success, ISO technical committee ISO/TC 176, Quality management and quality assurance, subcommittee SC 2, Quality systems, is busy laying the groundwork for the next generation of quality management standards.

May 20 is World Metrology Day, commemorating the anniversary of the signing of the Metre Convention in 1875. This treaty provides the basis for a coherent measurement system worldwide.

The theme chosen for 2014 is Measurements and the global energy challenge.

The world is facing a growing global energy challenge over the coming decades. The crux of the problem is the growing energy demand, particularly from the emerging nations, coupled with the need to limit or reduce greenhouse gases. Add in the desire to have diversity and security of supply and the increasing costs to extract fossil fuels, and we see the trend is for a greater mix of energy sources, including renewables.

World Standards Day

From the pages of Open Systems Today - October 13, 1994 ..........

"The International Standards Organization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) designated October 14 as World Standards Day to recognize those volunteers who have worked hard to define international standards ...

The United States celebrated World Standards Day on  October 11; Finland celebrated on  October 13; and Italy celebrated on October 18."

No further comment about the global state of "standardization" is necessary !!!
